Method
- Brew a fresh shot of espresso and let it sit for a moment but do not let it go cold.
- Fill a cocktail shaker generously with ice cubes.
- Pour the vodka, fresh espresso, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup (if using) over the ice.
- Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to aerate the coffee oils and create foam.
- Place fresh large ice cubes into a chilled rocks glass.
- Strain the cocktail mixture over the ice in the glass.
- Squeeze the orange wedge or zest over the drink to release oils, then place on rim.
- Garnish with three coffee beans on top of the foam and serve immediately.
Notes
For the best foam, ensure your espresso is fresh (has crema) before shaking. Using a dark roast coffee provides the best flavor contrast with the orange.
