Ingredients

Tots & Toppings
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots
  • 8 strips bacon cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 0.25 cup ranch dressing
Homemade Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper optional

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Skillet for bacon

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread tater tots on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, until extra crispy and golden.
  2. While tots bake, cook bacon until crispy. Drain and crumble.
  3. For the sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in cheese, garlic powder, and cayenne until melted.
  5. Transfer hot tots to a serving platter. Pour warm cheese sauce over them.
  6. Top generously with crumbled bacon and drizzle with ranch dressing. Serve immediately.

Notes

For the best cheese sauce, shred your own cheese from a block instead of using pre-shredded bags.
