Ingredients

The Base
  • 4 large smoked sausages or thick all-beef hot dogs/bratwursts
  • 4 split-top hot dog buns thick brioche or bakery style
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
Loaded Toppings
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese sauce warmed
  • 0.5 cup BBQ sauce thick and sticky, warmed
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon cooked until crispy and crumbled
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet or grill
  • Small saucepans (for warming sauces)

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Drain, let cool, and crumble.
  2. Grill or pan-fry the smoked sausages until browned and heated entirely through.
  3. Warm the cheddar cheese sauce and BBQ sauce in separate small pots or in the microwave.
  4. Brush the inside of the buns with melted butter and toast them face-down on a hot skillet until golden brown.
  5. Place a hot sausage into each toasted bun.
  6. Drizzle generously with the warm cheese sauce, followed by the BBQ sauce.
  7. Top with a heavy handful of crumbled bacon and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not skip toasting the buns! It creates a barrier that stops the cheese and BBQ sauce from making the bread soggy.
