Ingredients
  

Cake Base
  • 2 cans strawberry pie filling 21 oz each
  • 1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 oz
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened and cubed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter sliced into squares
Optional Toppings
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries sliced
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the strawberry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Drop small dollops or cubes of softened cream cheese over the strawberry filling.
  4. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit and cheese layers.
  5. Place butter slices over the cake mix, covering as much surface area as possible.
  6. Bake for 45-55 minutes until the filling is bubbling and the top is golden brown.
  7. Let the cake cool for 15-20 minutes to allow the filling to set before serving.

Notes

For a crunchier top, use sliced cold butter rather than melted butter.
