Ingredients

Tater Tot Base
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots one standard bag
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt optional
Beef Layer
  • 1 lb ground beef lean
  • 1 pkt taco seasoning 1 oz
  • 0.66 cup water
Toppings
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • 0.25 cup red onion diced
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Large Skillet
  • Oven
  • Cheese grater
  • Chef's knife

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange tater tots in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake tots for 25-30 minutes until very crispy and golden brown.
  3. Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add water and taco seasoning to beef. Simmer 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Remove tots from oven. Top immediately with seasoned beef and shredded cheese.
  6. Return to oven for 3-5 minutes until cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven. Top with sour cream, diced tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro.
  8. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For best results, grate your own cheese from a block as it melts better than pre-shredded. Ensure tots are extra crispy before topping to prevent sogginess.
