- To make the syrup: Combine cherries, sugar, water, and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
- Simmer on low for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Mash the cherries to release juices.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and let cool completely. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a jar.
- To assemble: Pour 2 tablespoons of syrup into the bottom of a tall glass.
- Fill the glass to the top with ice cubes.
- Pour the milk over the ice until the glass is 3/4 full.
- Slowly pour the espresso shots over the milk to create a layered effect.
- Garnish with fresh cherries and a cinnamon stick. Stir well before drinking.
Notes
Leftover syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. It is also great on pancakes or ice cream.
