Ingredients

The Base & Sauce
  • 2 Naan breads or flatbread crusts large
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
Toppings
  • 0.5 lb mild Italian sausage casings removed
  • 0.75 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup mozzarella cheese shredded (optional)
Finishes
  • 3 tbsp hot honey plus more for drizzling
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Baking sheet or Pizza Stone
  • Skillet
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a pizza stone, preheat it now.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the Italian sausage, breaking it into chunks, until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. Whisk together olive oil and minced garlic in a small bowl.
  4. Place flatbreads on a baking sheet. Brush generously with the garlic oil mixture.
  5. Top with optional mozzarella, then add distinct dollops of ricotta cheese across the surface.
  6. Distribute browned sausage and half of the fresh thyme over the flatbreads.
  7. Bake for 10-14 minutes until the crust is golden and ricotta is warmed through.
  8. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle generously with hot honey. Top with remaining thyme and optional red pepper flakes. Serve warm.

Notes

For a crispier crust, bake the flatbreads directly on the oven rack for the last 2 minutes of cooking. If you cannot find hot honey, warm regular honey with a pinch of cayenne pepper.
