Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a pizza stone, preheat it now.
- In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the Italian sausage, breaking it into chunks, until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
- Whisk together olive oil and minced garlic in a small bowl.
- Place flatbreads on a baking sheet. Brush generously with the garlic oil mixture.
- Top with optional mozzarella, then add distinct dollops of ricotta cheese across the surface.
- Distribute browned sausage and half of the fresh thyme over the flatbreads.
- Bake for 10-14 minutes until the crust is golden and ricotta is warmed through.
- Remove from oven and immediately drizzle generously with hot honey. Top with remaining thyme and optional red pepper flakes. Serve warm.
Notes
For a crispier crust, bake the flatbreads directly on the oven rack for the last 2 minutes of cooking. If you cannot find hot honey, warm regular honey with a pinch of cayenne pepper.
