Ingredients
  

Meringue
  • 4 large egg whites room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar superfine is best
  • 0.25 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract or vanilla extract
Color & Decoration
  • few drops red gel food coloring
  • few drops green gel food coloring
  • as needed edible glitter or sanding sugar optional

Equipment

  • Stand mixer or hand mixer with whisk attachment
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Piping bags
  • Star piping tip (e.g., Wilton 1M)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 225°F (105°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean, dry bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy.
  3. Gradually add sugar while whipping on medium-high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form and sugar is dissolved.
  4. Mix in the peppermint extract.
  5. Divide meringue. Leave one part white, tint one green, and use the third for red-striped swirls.
  6. Pipe star-shaped kisses onto the baking sheets using a star tip.
  7. Dust with glitter or sugar if desired.
  8. Bake for 60-90 minutes until crisp and dry. Turn off oven and let cool completely inside with the door ajar.

Notes

Avoid making on humid days. Ensure all equipment is grease-free. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
