Ingredients

Crust
  • 4 pie crusts refrigerated or homemade (for top and bottom)
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
Filling
  • 8 cups apples peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith/Honeycrisp mix)
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Pan or Jelly Roll Pan
  • Rolling pin
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 9x13 pan or baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix diced apples, lemon juice, sugars, spices, and cornstarch in a large bowl.
  3. Roll out half the pie dough and press into the bottom/sides of the pan.
  4. Spread apple filling over the bottom crust. Top with remaining dough (solid or lattice). Seal edges.
  5. Brush with egg wash and bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Whisk glaze ingredients together. Drizzle over warm pie bars. Cool before slicing.

Notes

Dice the apples small so the bars are easy to cut. Ensure the pie cools for at least 30 mins to let the filling set.
