Ingredients

For the Gooey Strawberry Cheesecake Filling
  • 1 block (8 oz) full-fat cream cheese softened
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup strawberry jam or preserves with fruit pieces for extra gooey texture
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Sandwiches
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough OR 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying, approx.
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • Large skillet or Dutch oven
  • Electric Mixer
  • Paper towels
  • Tongs or slotted spoon

Method

  1. Make Gooey Filling: Beat softened cream cheese and sugar until creamy. Beat in strawberry jam/preserves and vanilla until thick and viscous. Chill for 15-30 mins if desired.
  2. Prep Dough: Unroll crescent rolls into 4 rectangles (press triangles together) OR cut puff pastry into 4 rectangles.
  3. Fill Pastry: Spoon 2-3 tbsp of the thick, gooey filling onto one half of each dough rectangle. Fold the other half over. Use a fork to firmly seal edges.
  4. Fry: Heat 1-inch of oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry sandwiches 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and puffed. Filling will be molten and gooey.
  5. Drain & Serve: Remove to paper towel-lined plate. Dust generously with powdered sugar while warm. Serve immediately for best gooey, crispy results.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is well softened. Don't overfill the pastry. Seal edges tightly with a fork to prevent leaks. Monitor oil temperature for optimal crispness and gooey filling.
