Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook breakfast sausage, breaking it into small crumbles, for 8-10 minutes until browned with no pink remaining.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, milk, and ranch seasoning mix. Beat until smooth.
- Drain excess grease from cooked sausage and add to the cream cheese mixture.
- Add 1.5 cups cheddar cheese and all mozzarella cheese to the bowl. Fold until evenly combined.
- Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Sprinkle remaining 0.5 cup cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until heated through, cheese is melted and bubbly, and top shows golden brown spots.
- Let rest 2-3 minutes before serving. Garnish with green onions or jalapeños if desired.
- Serve hot with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.
Notes
For best results, use freshly shredded cheese from a block. Spicy breakfast sausage adds extra kick. Can substitute Italian sausage or turkey sausage. Store leftovers in airtight container in refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in oven at 350°F or microwave in 30-second intervals.
