- Wash the orange thoroughly and zest the outer peel using a microplane, avoiding the white pith.
- In a medium saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, and the tablespoon of orange zest.
- Heat over medium-low heat until steaming and small bubbles appear (do not boil). Let simmer for 2-3 minutes to infuse.
- Reduce heat to low. Add the chopped white chocolate, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt.
- Whisk continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Optional: Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve if you prefer a smooth drink without zest bits.
- Dip the rim of your mugs into the extra melted white chocolate to create a drip effect.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top generously with whipped cream, extra zest, and an orange slice.
Notes
Use high-quality white chocolate containing cocoa butter for the best melt and flavor. For an adult version, add a shot of Grand Marnier.
