Ingredients

Orzo Base
  • 2 cups dry orzo pasta
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Sauce & Topping
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 0.5 cup Mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1.5 cups crispy fried onions French's or similar
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped

Equipment

  • Large skillet or Dutch oven
  • Baking dish (9x13)
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Chef's knife

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking dish if your skillet isn't oven-safe.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add dry orzo and toast for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Pour in broth and seasonings. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes until liquid is absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in heavy cream, Parmesan, and Mozzarella until melted and creamy.
  6. Transfer to baking dish (or smooth top in skillet). Top evenly with crispy fried onions.
  7. Bake for 5-8 minutes until onions are golden brown and toasted.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

For a protein boost, add cooked shredded chicken or bacon bits into the creamy mixture before baking.
