Ingredients

Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef 85/15 lean
  • 1 small yellow onion finely diced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1.5 cups cheddar cheese shredded
Pastry
  • 2 boxes refrigerated pie crusts 4 crusts total
  • 1 egg beaten with water for wash
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds optional

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Round cookie cutter
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef and onions over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Unroll pie crusts and cut into 4-5 inch circles using a cutter or bowl.
  5. Place a spoonful of meat mixture in the center of each circle and top with shredded cheese.
  6. Brush edges with egg wash, fold dough over to form a half-moon, and crimp edges with a fork to seal.
  7. Place on baking sheets. Cut a small slit in the top of each pie for steam to escape.
  8. Brush tops with remaining egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure the filling is cool before adding to the dough to prevent sogginess. Serve with pickle slices and extra burger sauce.
